In this article I examine an argument structure construction on its deathbed, namely, the Old Church Slavonic (OCS) bare locative argument construction. Why does the construction even exist when the pattern it instantiates is otherwise dead? What happens to the verbs involved, and which argument structure constructions take over?   I take a usage-based approach to syntactic productivity to examine what happens in such cases.  In many ways, this approach can account for the observed development. The final stronghold of the locative construction was a small group of highly semantically coherent verbs. When the construction was lost, the verbs joined other argument constructions, preferably constructions that were also highly semantically coherent, but not necessarily very type frequent.
