The aim of the paper is to numerically predict ice shedding from a wing with an electrothermal de-icing system. Based on experimental results, shedding is modeled when 76% of the interface ice-structure have melted. Using this threshold and comparing different de-icing heat fluxes, the datasets contains the required heating time and energy for the ice protection system.
A Python code was used to process the raw simulation data. The code can be found under https://git.ntnu.no/joachw/Numerical_deicing_public.</dcterms:description><dcterms:subject>Engineering</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>icing</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>computational fluid dynamics (CFD)</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>numerical simulations</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>icing wind tunnel</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>drone</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>de-icing</dcterms:subject><dcterms:subject>ice protection system</dcterms:subject><dcterms:language>English</dcterms:language><dcterms:isReferencedBy>Submitted for review.</dcterms:isReferencedBy><dcterms:date>2026-02-26</dcterms:date><dcterms:contributor>Wallisch, Joachim</dcterms:contributor><dcterms:contributor>Hann, Richard</dcterms:contributor><dcterms:dateSubmitted>2026-02-25</dcterms:dateSubmitted><dcterms:type>Post-processed simulation results</dcterms:type><dcterms:license>CC0 1.0</dcterms:license></metadata>
