Description
| Collection of all particles from two micrometer sized cubes of plagioclase and pyroxene extracted with FIB-SEM nanotomography from the Harcus intrusion, SW Australia. The particles is represented by pre processed and smoothed stereo-lithography files (STL) and all particle parameters are described in excel spreadsheets. The raw particles are supplemented as complete clusters (PLAG-all and OPX-all) and can be subdivided at own discretion. The results in "Complete object list.tab" is generated and can be replicated by solidification (Iso2mesh) - conversion to patran (gitbash) and modeled using the three dimensional micromagnetic code MERRILL at room temperature in 20 different field directions. The high-resolution 3D imaging and extensive micromagnetic modelling enables the true meaning of domain-state diagnostic plots. Arguing that the traditional interpretation of such plots should be cautiously revised for two reasons: firstly, single-vortex and multi-vortex states do not plot on expected trends with increasing grain size and, secondly, the multi-component mixture of domain states represented within each silicate volume spans the entire range of natural variability seen in bulk samples. This questions the validity of an interpretation of the bulk averages in terms of grain size alone. (2020-08-19) |
